ENGLISH REVIEW The first film about a successful doll, whose production made it not only into educational and philosophical controversies, but also gender, feminist and human rights, which is, together with many references in the postmodern spirit – a very intelligent thread of this iconic, provocative and perceptually demanding film for the audience really universal. Barbieland, presented by the creators of the project, is a mirror and value of the real reality of our lives and the world of film, and the world is highly stylized and tries to significantly iconize the defined theme – Barbieland vs. bleak reality – of the unfairly divided fate of the world and its contrasts, contradictions and with an unequivocal end: the death of the individual. The biggest positives are the organic casting project with many current Hollywood stars not only in the main, but also in supporting roles and cameos, along with excellent art with a pink mise-en-scène, perfect lighting and excellent camerawork, including FX. On the other hand, reservations can be made about the script, dialogues and weak ending, where excessive fluffiness, argumentative shallowness and banalities, baroque divisiveness on all sides (outline criticism of machismo and feminism) and the suspicion that the creators worked extensively with only inexperienced lower versions of AI are clearly visible. even if the storyline is not boring – on the contrary, it often refreshes the simple and literal basic concept of Berbieland. In terms of production, the project will not be lost at all, despite the inflated budget, and its author has already been promised work on the development and re-creation of the mythical world of Narnia for the next few years for NETFLIX.

Durran Gerwig je nielen herečkou a nezávislou režisérkou ale aj tvorkyňou prvého filmu o úspešnej bábike, ktorej produkcia to dotiahla nielen do polemík edukatívnych a filozofických, ale aj genderových, feministických a ľudskoprávnych, čo je spolu s mnohými odkazmi v postmodernom duchu – veľmi inteligentným pradivom tohto ikonického, provokatívneho a na vnímanie náročného filmu pre publikum skutočne univerzálne.

Barbieland v podaní tvorcov projektu je zrkadlovým a hodnotovým skutočnej reality našich životov i sveta filmu a svet v ňom je výrazne štylizovaný – infantilitné jednoznačnosť a doslovnoť vs. neukotvenosť protikladov. Obdobne sa snaží výrazne ikonizovať vymedzenú tému – Barbieland vs. šedá a tvrdá realita – nespravodlivo rozdeleného údelu sveta a jeho kontrastov, protirečení a s jednoznačným koncom: očakávanou krutou smrťou indivídua.

Za najväčšie pozitívne stránky nutné označiť organický casting na projekt s mnohými aktuálnymi hollywoodskymi star nielen v hlavných, ale aj vo vedľajších roliach a cameo vložkách, spolu s excelentným výtvarnom s ružovou mizanscénou, perfektným svietením a excelentnou kameramanskou prácou vrátane FX. Nuž autorka začínala ako a stále je aj – najmä herečka. Naopak zásadnejšie výhrady možno mať k povrchne a zakuklene pôsobiacemu scenáru. Dialógy a slabé zakončenie, kde na konci rozprávania zreteľne vidno prílišnú košatosť, argumentačné plytčiny a banality, barokujúcu rozpoltenosť na všetky strany (ideovo najviac napr. obrysová kritika mačizmu i feminizmu) a trošku nadnesené podozrenie či neodbytný ale opakovaný pocit, že tvorcovia výdatne spolupracovali prevažne s neoverenými či slepými verziami AI pri charakterizácii bábiky Barbie.

Vo filme je veľa skrytého i otvoreného humoru ktorý zväčša funguje a obdobne dejová línia i keď značne roztiahnutá zásadnejšie nenudí – ba naopak veľakrát humorne i intelektuálne osviežuje jednoduchý a doslovnosťou nešetriaci bazálny koncept Berbielandu. Producentsky sa v globálnej dobe nové projekty Grety Gerwig vôbec nestratia [still in middle of learnig of directing] – napriek naduženému rozpočtu a kreatívnej mediálnej franšízovisti BARBIE. Jeho autorka má už prisľúbenú prácu na developmente a re-kreovaní sveta bájnej Narnie na niekoľko najbližších rokov pre spoločnosť NETFLIX.
