SYNOPSIS Marion (Julie Delpy) is a bubbly neurotic self-confident and over-the-top friend of France who has chosen to live in New York alongside the hypochondriac American Jack (Adam Goldberg). Their relationship starts to become a stereotypical cycle. Jack has no idea yet that they will be staying with Marion’s parents, Jeannot and Anna (Albert Delpy, Marie Pillet), who do not speak a word of English. But that doesn’t stop them from putting Jack through a series of tests. The son-in-law adept doesn’t speak French for a change. During the two days of getting to know the big city, art zones and monuments, as well as the wide world under the skin of true Parisians, there will be many confrontations between the ways of life in America and in France, surprises from the past pop up in the form of former partners, the language barrier and other peculiar characteristics of both actors confuse the relationship and the story. Jack suffers from American stereotypes but also from a specific fear of terrorists, he is uncomfortable with the peculiar behavior of Parisians. A cosmopolitan, independent and loving but emotionally insecure and wildly unbalanced girlfriend tries to be his support, but she does not deny her French roots and does not forgive herself for allusions to Jack’s American nature. It is clear that this holiday will be a real breakthrough for their relationship.

Marion (Julie Delpyová) je temperamentná neurotická sebaistá a nadmieru kamarátska Francúzska, ktorá si zvolila život v New Yorku po boku hypochondrického Američana Jacka (Adam Goldberg). Ich vzťah začína aj stereotypné zacyklenie. Jack vôbec ešte netuší, že budú u Marioniných rodičov Jeannota a Anny (Albert Delpy, Mária Pilletová), ktorí nevedia ani slovo anglicky.

To im však nebráni podrobiť Jacka sériu testov. Adept na pozíciu zaťa pre zmenu nerozpráva po francúzsky. Počas dvoch dní poznávania veľkomesta, umeleckých zón a pamiatok i širokého sveta podhubia pravých Parížanov dochádza k mnohým konfrontáciám spôsobov života v Amerike a vo Francúzsku, vyskakujú prekvapenia z minulosti v podobe bývalých partnerov, jazyková bariéra a iné svojrázne vlastnosti oboch aktérov.

Jack trpí americkými stereotypmi ale aj osobitým strachom z teroristov, je mu nepríjemné svojrázne chovanie sa Parížanov. Kozmopolitná, nezávislá a milujúca ale emočne neistá a prelietajúco nevyvážená priateľka sa mu snaží hoci oporou, ale nezaprie svoje francúzske korene a neodpustí si narážky na Jackov americký naturel. Je jasné, že táto dovolenka bude pre ich vzťah naozaj prelomová.

Satirická komédia s satira na ponorkovú lásku po dvoch rokoch chodenia, fóbie, zacyklenia, americko-francúzske stereotypy a priepastné povahové rozdiely medzi partnermi, ale aj iný kultúrny rozhľad. Najmä esej o tom či je je vážny vzťah medzi odlišnými temperamentmi skutočne možný a naplňujúci pre dožitie vo vernosti, zdieľaní a v rovnoprávnosti napĺňania potrieb.

Romantická milenecká satirická dráma francúzskych autorov so špičkovým hereckým obsadením s patovým zakončením je skutočne viac než romantizujúcim zamyslením pre široké a vnímavé publikum.
